Summer of 07. Spring and summer are about growth and change. Last quartter, Brilliant grew into a small print-on-demand publisher. I'm publishing a book soon by Diane Payne titled A New Kind of Music, and it deals with some changes in adolesant life. I recently moved and had some big life changes, so it's comforting to find some things the same, such as this website. It grows, but it's still about entertaining stories. I love stories that strike up strong emotions or make me wonder. To compile tips from many of my responses to submissions, I love a quick plot, dialogue, clear small details that show a lot, and characters that seem real or different. I've told writers that I need action, something to happen, and by that I mean the story needs to move in both physical and mental/emotional ways. Something should happen, for a reason. Sometimes, also, a story is perfect because it's different than anything I could have thought up. (Does that help? Sometimes editors give tips like: tell me a good story. But how??) If you've got your own tips about writing or publishing, submit them for Writer's End in Brilliant. Maybe your thoughts will help a fellow writer.
From March 07: I hope everyone is enjoying the stories on Brilliant. It's been fun reading so many different varieties of stories from writers across the US, England, Canada, Greece, and Autralia. I hope my comments have helped. The first print issue is out and I'm looking forward to producing the second. I'm looking for more entertaining stories, and more articles on writing to place in "Writer's End."
The magazine is now published through my press, Brilliant Book Press. I hope you will take a look at the submission page and storefront. Maybe you have a collection of short stories or novel you'd like to see in print. This is the place for unique projects.
Good luck to all the writers, and thank you to everyone for submitting.
